Shamsia Hassani and Malina Suliman are two Afghan women marked by the problems that have been affecting their country for years: conservatism, religious extremism, wars and constant violation of women’s rights. Both found a way to express themselves against the oppression of the regime in art and graffiti.
They have different styles but are the first female street artists in Afghanistan. Shamsia and Melina erase the marks of war; the broken walls, the buildings destroyed by bombs, with sprays and paint rollers. They make graffiti showing the world that Afghanistan is more than what we see in the newspapers and to encourage other Afghan women not to give up their yearnings for freedom.
Those two girls are really, really, courageous!
