I remember one night being out and about and I stopped to watch a building that was being completely demolished. For years I watched that empty lot, wondering what might come next…and VOILA….it’s Hotel Topazz….and it’s……COOL!
Vienna is full of such classical architecture so when something new and modern but with a twist comes along..it’s exciting. Oh…how I LOVE those windows. Check it out…and they even have a rooftop penthouse that can be rented out for events.
Vienna’s first green upscale hotel sets the precedent for the future of the city, while honoring its rich artistic past. Located in the historic 1st district, Hotel Topazz combines landmark architecture with a holistic, resource-saving philosophy that starts with low-energy usage and carries through to locally-sourced food and the use of green building materials.
Its name, cylindrical form and staggered large oval windows draws influence from a silver vase, studded with amber gems, made by iconic Viennese artist Koloman Moser.
The interiors pay homage to other Austrian artists, such as Dagobert Peche. The Viennese Modern Age is celebrated and revived throughout the hotel, particularly in the Salon, where the easy-going yet luxurious vibe of a private turn-of-the-century Viennese house is recreated. (via designhotels.com)
